Chelsea and Arsenal hope Southampton do not sell Van Dijk to Liverpool

Virgil Van Dijk surprised Southampton by submitting an official transfer request this week Agen Casino. The Dutch defender also released a statement containing nearly 500 words explaining why he did so.

Liverpool are now poised to revive their interest in the defender with a £ 60m bid, though they have been forced to apologize to The Saints last month over allegations of an illegal approach.

Express Sport reports that Van Dijk prefers a move to Liverpool, where he will play under Jurgen Klopp. But The Times said that Chelsea and Arsenal also want to bring in the Dutchman and hope Southampton refused to sell it to Liverpoo.

Southampton are reportedly very angry at Liverpool, accusing them of influencing Van Dijk to leave earlier this summer. The 26-year-old has not played for Southampton since suffering an ankle injury in January, but the club remains adamant that he is not for sale.

So the seizure of four elite clubs

Liverpool seem to be the leading candidate to sign Van Dijk but Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is desperate for a new player at Stamford Bridge. He will be guaranteed to be the first team player at Liverpool under Klopp but will face tough competition to get a place at Chelsea even though they use three central defenders.

Van Dijk will likely be next to Joel Matip in the Klopp defense, ahead of former Southampton defender Dejan Lovren, as well as Ragnar Klavan and Mamadou Sakho.

But at Chelsea he should be the trio of Conte’s central defender at the moment, Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta, something that will also be done by new Antonio Rudiger this season.

Arsenal also need a central defender, after Arsene Wenger followed Chelsea’s lead by playing with three center-back formations. With senior defender Per Mertesacker injured, and young Rob Holding, Arsenal still need additional players who are experienced and can be relied upon.

Manchester City are also said to be paying attention to Van Dijk with Pep Guardiola having looked at the center back despite sprinkling some 200 million pounds on the transfer market this summer.

As for Manchester United, they seem not to be involved in the competition to get Van Dijk. The Red Devils brought Victor Lindelof in the early summer with Jose Mourinho now trying to strengthen another area of his squad. (Source: Express)
